Dental Exams: What to Expect

A healthy mouth equals a healthy body. And while many factors contribute towards having sound oral health, it all begins with a dental exam. This is an integral part of your dental care, and you should aim to get a checkup at least once a year. Here at Burncoat Family Dental, we have the experience, expertise, and professionalism you need to have confidence that you’re receiving the highest level of care possible.

We go to great lengths to ensure that your dental exam is a smooth process from start to finish. Our dental practice is designed with comfort in mind, with welcoming touches, as well as a friendly team of staff ready to welcome you the moment you walk through the door. The actual dental exam process is carried out by experienced dentists, assisted by professional dental assistants and a dental hygienist if required. You can always be sure that your visit to the dentist’s chair is painless and stress-free.

We use the latest dental technology and practices to ensure that our patients have a relaxed trip to our facility. Our electric handpieces allow us to work precisely and efficiently, with minimal noise and discomfort. The end result? A trip to the dentist that’s more relaxing and calmer for our patients.

So what can you expect on the day of your dental exam? Let’s take a look at the steps involved.

Medical History

Your dentist will enquire about your oral history, current habits, and any problems you’re experiencing to build a picture of your current dental condition. Once they have that information, they will put together a treatment plan, if one is necessary, or provide some useful tips that you can incorporate into your dental routine moving forward.

Education

An educated patient is an empowered patient. Here at Burncoat Family Dental, we use dental exams as an opportunity to educate our patients about the current condition of their oral health and their treatment plans. To do this, we use intraoral digital cameras, which allow our dentists to take images of the hard-to-see areas of the mouth. The more you know about what’s going on inside your mouth, the better you’ll be able to manage it on your own moving forward.

Dental Cleaning

Dental cleaning is an important step on the way towards having a mouth that’s clean and healthy (and which feels great). To begin, we’ll remove any build-up of calculus (tartar) and plaque from your teeth. This process will remove bacteria that can cause a whole host of problems, including gum inflammation and gum disease. After that’s done, we’ll look for oral damage, perform an oral cancer screening, and give your teeth a polish, which will have you leaving our office with the “fresh from the dentist” feeling.

If you’re ready to make an appointment for a dental exam, then be sure to get in touch with us here at Burncoat Family Dental. One of our helpful members of staff will be happy to make an appointment for a time that suits you.
